New guidance for researchers on race and mental health

Mental Health Nursing,  Sep 1999

A new publication aims to steer researchers through the ethical issues involved in researching mental health and race issues

Ethical guidelines for researchers dealing with race and mental health issues have been produced by the Transcultural Psychiatric Society and Mind.

Getting the Evidence addresses the need for ethical practice in the design, conduct and use of research involving mental health, race, ethnicity and culture, and includes sections on collaborating with communities, formulating hypotheses, data collection and analysis, reporting results, and disseminating findings.

In a foreword, Sir Herman Ousley of the Commission for Racial Equality, says there is 'substantial evidence' to show that racism impacts on the mental health of black and ethnic minority people.

Getting the Evidence is available from Mind Publications, price L 5.99 plus a 4op A4-sized SAE. (Telephone) 020 8221 9666.
