Minor changes only in summer health reshuffle

Mental Health Nursing,  Sep 1999

The summer reshuffle of ministerial posts has resulted in limited changes were health is concerned. Whilst there were some expectations that Frank Dobson, Secretary of State for Health and Mo Mowlem, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, may have changed posts for other departments, they both remain in place.

However, George Howarth joins the Northern Ireland Office ministerial team as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State with a brief for political development, health and social services, equality and human rights issues. At the Department of health, Lord Hunt and Gisela Stuart join the team. Lord Hunt's responsibilities will include action on waiting lists and waiting times and Gisela Stuart is appointed to a newly created post which will include responsibility for ensuring delivery across the health and social care agenda, NHS direct, accident and emergency services and the health aspects of the millennium.
