A third of all property crime is now drug-- related, according to a report from NACRO. Drug-Driven Crime says offenders funding their drug habits commit one in three thefts, burglaries, and street robberies. But the report adds that although treatment programmes are successful in reducing re-offending by drug users, the availability of rehabilitation services varies widely across the country.
Mind has published a new booklet on paranoia, aimed at anyone who has experience of paranoia, either directly or through family, friends or carers. The charity says paranoia is associated with schizophrenia, but can be present in over 8o other conditions, from deafness to ageing. The Mental Health Foundation has launched a L 350,000 research programme aimed at evaluating methods of improving the quality of life of people with dementia. Research projects will focus on communication and alternative therapies, and will include evaluation of aromatherapy, music therapy and bright light therapy.
Roger Kline, head of health for the CPNA's parent union MSF, and CPHVA director Jackie Carnell have co-written a new book detailing recent changes to the health service and community nursing.
