Samuel Rabinove: Champion of freedom
Church & State, Jul/Aug 2002
The First Amendment lost a champion in June when Samuel Rabinove died in New York at the age of 79.
Rabinove, the American Jewish Committee's legal director for more than 30 years, was a relentless defender of religious liberty, filing cases and briefs as part,of a vigorous defense of civil liberties. He served on the Americans United National Advisory Council for many years, and in 1997 he was presented with the AU Religious Liberty Award in recognition of his tireless advocacy of church-state separation.
Sam's contribution to the cause of religious liberty will be missed. We extend our condolences to his wife and four children.
