On the radar

Flight Journal,  Aug 2003  by James, Jeff

As one of the most popular massively multiplayer combat-flight sims in the business, Aces High has been updated frequently by developer HiTech Creations. True to form, a major update to the game is planned with the upcoming Aces High 2: Tour of Duty. According to a statement by a company representative in the Aces High community message boards, AH2 will include major upgrades to the game visuals, physics, terrain and other features, including placing more importance on the player's pilot to increase player immersion. Look for AH2 this fall from www.hitechcreations.com.

New PC flight sims need more powerful computer hardware than ever before; games such as Combat Flight Simulator 3 and IL-2 Sturmovik demand top-of-the-line hardware for the best possible visual detail. Thankfully, help is on the way. ATI and nVidia have just released powerful new video processors in the form of the ATI Radeon 9800 and the GeForce FX. We'll present a comparative roundup of these (and other video cards) in the next installment of "Virtual Pilot," so stay tuned.

Microsoft Flight Simulator add-on developer Just Flight cranks out new scenery and plane add-on packs for Microsoft Flight Sim 2002 with impressive regularity. Latest of these new add-ons is FS Traffic 2002-a $34.99 expansion pack that improves aircraft artificial intelligence (AI) and adds a bevy of beautifully rendered AI aircraft, complete with tail markings, transparent cockpits, animated control surface and lots of other detailed goodies to FS2002. To order (or just take a look), visit the Just Flight website at www.justflight.com.

We're always on the lookout for the latest news and product information regarding the latest flight-sim software and hardware for PC and video games. Have some product news or other info you'd like to send our way? Drop us an email at flightradar@airage.com.
