There was a lot more I learned during eight days in California besides the results of the first round in the special US House election in the Golden State's 22nd District (see cover box, last week) and the nationally watched debate at the Republican National Committee's RNC's) winter meeting about denying funds to candidates and officeholders who won't support a ban on partial birth abortions (see page 5).
In driving over 500 miles-from Los Angeles to Santa Maria and Santa Barbara, and then to the RNC conclave in Palm Springs-I seemed to run into fresh political developments at almost each stop. . . .
