A Collect for Epiphany

Anglican Theological Review,  Winter 2002  by Hamilton, Reid

Lord God, whose star two thousand years ago

appeared within the fire-fretted skies

and, not unlocked for, caught the watching eyes

of three who, patient, searching, longed to know

your will revealed in the myriad lights,

and now discerned, among the starry band

the light that bade them leave their dear homeland

to wander, following through a hundred nights;

give us, we pray, that longing heart and mind,

to search creation well and thoroughly

until that one small difference we find

and in that star your Holy Spirit see

and so are drawn, as they, to seek the one

who all creation binds, your only Son.
