Economies guru makes firm switch in Chicago

Economist Brian Wesbury has joined Chicago-based financial services firm, claymore, as senior managing director and chief investment strategist. Wesbury also will serve the firm as chairman of its investment committee.

Wesbury, who appears frequently at state association meetings across the region, had worked 13 years at Griffin, Kubik, Stephens & Thompson in Chicago, most recently as its chief economist.

Wesbury is the author of The New Era of Wealth, is a member of the Academic Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and is an adjunct professor of economics at Wheaton College. He has also served as chief economist for the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, and as an economist for The Chicago Corporation and Harris Bank.

Wesbury has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Montana, Missoula, and a master's degree in business from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Claymore is a privately-held firm that offers investment solutions to financial advisors. Its entities have provided supervision, management, servicing or distribution on approximately $10.4 billion in assets for a range of investment products.

* Shelby County State Bank, Harlan, Iowa, announced:

Kevin Campbell joined the bank as operations officer. Campbell will manage the information technology systems, electronic banking, and bookkeeping department. Prior to joining the bank, Campbell worked for the U.S. Department of Defense. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Robb Jacobsen joined the bank as agricultural loan officer. Jacobsen has a bachelor's degree from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.

* Louis Broghamer joined Friendship State Bank, Friendship, Ind., as senior commercial lending officer. Broghamer has more than 35 years experience in the industry, including work with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the U.S. Treasury.

* Warren Heidbreder has been elected to the board of Central State Bank of Muscatine, Iowa. Heidbreder is vice president, chief financial officer and secretary of Muscatine-based Bandag, Inc. He has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Indiana University and an MBA from Hofstra University Graduate School of Business, Hempstead, N.Y.

Central State Bank also announced the following promotions:

Tracy McGinnis to vice president. McGinnis was most recently retail banking manager at the bank.

Nancy Van Heiden to vice president. Van Heiden joined the bank as human resources manager; she is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls.

Bret Olson to assistant vice president, commercial banking. Olson joined the bank in 1995 as a loan review analyst. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa, Ames.

Cindy Rusch to administrative officer and secretary of the bank's holding company, Central Bancshares Inc.

* Wells Fargo & Co., Minneapolis, announced the following people have joined its organization:

Stephen Callahan was hired as senior business banker at its Wayzata, Minn., location. Callahan worked most recently as a business banker at Sterling State Bank, Rochester. He has a bachelor's degree from Boston College.

Michael Baden was hired as regional private banking director for the Twin Cities market. Baden worked most recently as senior vice president managing corporate executive customer groups for U.S. Bank. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.

Peggy Gunn was hired to manage communications for the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Gunn has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a juris doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul. She was government affairs manager for U.S. Bancorp and communications director for the Minnesota Attorney General's office.

Also, David Quigg has been named community banking president and Duane Ostlund has been named business banking manager, both for Wells Fargo's St. Paul, Minn., market.

* Larry Ward and Jim Gulan have joined Eden Prairie, Minn.-based HTG Architects. Gulan will be assigned to the firm's Wells Fargo projects.
