But for the whole month of May, the deals get even better. During the annual Founder's Sale, prices drop an extra dollar per yard (on all fabrics that cost at least $2.99 per yard). Sir's bills itself as one of the largest fabric shops in the South, with enough apparel, upholstery, and drapery fabric to fill three large buildings. "On a weekly basis, we draw customers from seven states," says manager Ken Mackay.

In addition to upholstery, you can find drapery fabrics, satin, dupioni silk, and sewing supplies. We spotted chiffon ($1.99 per yard), seersucker ($2.99 per yard), drapery lining ($1.99 per yard), outdoor upholstery ($3.99 per yard), and real leather hides ($3 per square foot).
