So Creative, So Simple
Southern Living, Oct 2006 by Anderson, Sara
Pick and choose ideas to boost your bath's looks, from paint to artwork and more. No remodeling required.
Thank heavens, not every decorating decision you make has to be a major commitment. Some of the best ones take only a few minutes and use the things you already have. Love the thought of making speedy changes to your bath? Copy these cool ideas.
Showcasing Crystal
Homeowner Ann Brock of Jackson, Mississippi, is one of those Southern women who does a lot of things well-without trying. (You know the type.) She picks out art like a pro, arranges everything from flowers to fancy soaps with flair, and has a knack for using her Waterford Crystal collection in a fresh way. The vases sometimes hold flowers or cotton balls, and sometimes they stand empty, looking fabulous. "Why leave your things in an attic or hidden away in a cabinet?" says Ann.
Balancing Color
To create this airy bath, designer Ann Carter chose iridescent glass mosaic tile for the tub surround and sink backsplash, bone white limestone for the floor and vanity top, and ivory paint shades for the cabinetry and walls. "Ann [Brock] wanted the bath to be a soothing, cool space," says Ann Carter. "Not too warm but not chilly, and very natural in color." The room's tone-on-tone neutrals make it a perfect place to hang art. And why not? Paintings brighten up other rooms around the house. "I love walking into my bath and the first thing I see is a giant sunflower," says Ann Brock. "When I'm looking for art, I buy what I love, and then I find a place for it in my house. That just seems to work best." No arguments here.
