Fancy Bulletin Board

Southern Living,  Nov 2005

Panels covered in fabric become family-message central.

One bulletin board may not be enough to keep up with a family's harried schedule. ease the strain on your brain with an entire wall of panels to pin notes on.

Homeowner Jamie Gerard had a series of them installed across one wall in her home office. This puts work materials for her custom invitations business in plain sight.

A similar look is easy to achieve. Purchase 4- x 8-foot panels of burlap-covered Homasote, a ½-inch-thick fiber-board product made from recycled wood fiber material. (Visit the company's Web site at www.homasote.com.) The lightweight panels can be painted to match your decor and can be custom cut using a handsaw or power saw. Install them directly onto the wall with paneling nails, or use paneling adhesive and nail along the edges for extra support.

Another option is to purchase packages of 12- x 12-inch cork squares at a crafts store. Cover them with fabric for a decorative look. Choose material with a wide weave to hide tack holes. Use industrial-grade self-fastening strips to attach the cork squares to the wall.

The only problem may be that your wall is now just too pretty to cover with reminders! (For sources visit southern living, com/features.)
