Welcome to Our Idea Houses

Every year, Southern Living gets an itch to build three new homes loaded with the latest and greatest design ideas. In June, the doors open in Atlanta; DeLand, Florida; and Choudrant, Louisiana. We hope you can join us there to see what's new in Southern architecture, decorating, and landscape design.

Your summer is already booked, you say? Then pick up a copy of our August issue, where you'll find an extensive feature on each house. With so many beautiful rooms to explore, you'll find plenty of ways to liven your home. Here's a brief look at what we've built.

Georgia Idea House

Parkview is located in the heart of Atlanta in Glenwood Park. Traveling east on I-20 from the 1-75/85 connector, take Exit 59B. Turn right at the top of the ramp. Glenwood Park is on your left. Follow the signs to the Southern Living Idea House.

The house will be open from Saturday, June 18, to Sunday, October 2. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. (The house will be closed Monday and Tuesday.) Admission is $10; a portion of the proceeds will benefit Earth Share of Georgia.

Florida Idea House

Kinsley Place is located just north of Orlando in DeLand (in Victoria Park). Take 1-4 to Exit 116 (Orange Camp Road). Proceed approximately 1 mile west to Victoria Park. Follow the signs to the Southern Living Idea House.

The house will be open from Saturday, June 11, to Sunday, October 2. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. (The house will be closed Monday and Tuesday.) Admission is $5; a portion of the proceeds benefits local charities through the DeLand Rotary Club.

Louisiana Idea House

Emerson Hill is located 30 miles west of Monroe in Choudrant. Heading west on 1-20 from Monroe, take Exit 93 (Sibley/Choudrant). Turn right. Travel less than ¼ mile, and turn left on to State 820. Squire Creek is 2.3 miles down State 820 on the right. Follow the signs to the Southern Living Idea House.

The house will be open from Saturday, June 11, to Sunday, October 2. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. (The house will be closed Monday and Tuesday.) Admission is $5; a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team of Louisiana.
