Small-Town Flavor

You can't judge a restaurant by its awning. You might think an old fast-food joint would be good only for hot dogs and ice cream, but you'd be wrong. For proof, visit Three Suns "An American Bistro" Restaurant and Catering, which occupies a former Dairy Queen in the small town of Nicholasville, Kentucky, just south of Lexington.

All of the choices on chef/owner Sherrie Keller-Pauley's menu sound grand, but the most popular entrée, the Pecan Fried Chicken ($13), must be sampled. The chicken breasts boast a crunchy crust that contains pieces of toasted pecans. A delightfully sweet praline sauce tops the dish and perfectly complements the salty chicken. Other customer favorites include frog legs ($15) and filet mignon ($23).

Be sure to save room for the profiteroles ($5). These sumptuous puff pastries arrive at your table decorated with chocolate sauce. You may have to restrain yourself from scraping the plate.

Three Suns "An American Bistro" Restaurant and Catering: 502 North Main Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356; (859) 881-8225. Hours: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, 5:30-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Reservations recommended on Friday and Saturday.
