Ready, set, it's Christmas! And with guests on their way, how do you give your dining room a holiday makeover without blowing the budget? Just add a little red.
Centerpiece Scenario
Coat terra-cotta pots with red glossy spray paint. Place colorful amaryllis plants in each container, and line them down your table. Add a few votive candles, and your table glows.
Magnificent Magnolia
Replace artwork with a seasonal decoration. This magnolia wreath was jazzed up with a little spray paint. The same high-gloss red used on the terracotta pots turned this dried wreath into a glowing masterpiece. For more magnolia ideas, see page 58.
ORNAMENTS AND ROSES
A chandelier naturally sparkles, but when, adorned ;With ornaments, it really shines. Assistant Photo Stylist Cari South ysed champagne-colored, silver, and clear glass balls paired with red spray roses, "This isn't a project you want to finish in one night, Work on it a little at a time; it's fun and easy to do," Cari says.
* Start with a plastic foam cone. Select one that will cover the chain of your chandelier. Cut the cone in half lengthwise, and hollow out the inside. Then cover the outside of both foam pieces with glass balls, leaving a little space for spray roses. Use a glue gun to fasten ornaments to the foam.
* Once the glue is dry, secure the two halves of the foam cone around the chandelier chain with U-shaped pins (available; at floral stores) Place pins at the top, middle, and bottom of the arrangement. Fill: any blank spaces with rose blooms. To take it down, simply pull out rose blooms, and remove the U-shaped pins. Pull halves of cone away from chandelier chain, and:store them untitnext year.
