In Time for Hanukkah

Southern Living,  Dec 2004

Visit this Jewish store near Dallas for books, gifts, and ceremonial items.

You'll find everything you've ever needed or wanted for Hanukkah, even a mezuzah that looks like a mustard-slathered hot dog in a bun, at Dreidels Books & Gifts.

This Judaica gift and bookstore in the Dallas suburb of Richardson stocks a complete line of Jewish products from Seder plates to decorative mezuzahs (which contain scrolls of Scripture and are hung on doorposts).

In search of a dreidel? Owner Carol Litoff offers a ton of the four-sided toys for children. But for collectors, she has fancier versions too. "The best dreidel I sell is $1.75. It'll spin for five minutes. We have a crystal one for $75 that you would not want to spin at all," she says.

Last year, Dreidels sold more than 300 menorahs. "We have one customer who purchases a new menorah for each of her kids every year. She's starting a collection for each child," says Carol. Customers can buy menorahs that look like brass trumpets or even ballerina-themed ones for the dancer in the family.

And if the Hebrew National hot dog mezuzah isn't for you, choose from others made of metal, glass, wood, and ceramic. If you don't find a mezuzah to your liking, Carol will order one for you. She can also find you the perfect dreidel.

Dreidels Books & Gifts: 1465 West Campbell Road, Richardson, TX 75080; (972) 690-9115.
