House plan
Southern Living, Oct 2003
This plan hints at old-world style with all the open spaces today's families want. Timber bracing at several overhangs and a stone-and-stucco exterior convey French Country character and charm. The designers, Gary/Ragsdale, Inc., of Dallas, were able to minimize the impact of the front-facing garage doors by recessing them several feet and detailing them with arches and carriage house-style hardware.
The one-story plan tops out at a little more than 3,100 square feet and contains four bedrooms and plenty of closet space. Stepping inside the front door reveals an ample foyer with a cozy dining room for entertaining. A private study with its own covered porch is tucked along the front hall. The real showstopper of the home is the large family room, kitchen, and breakfast room that is designed to be one open space. Tucked behind this area is a private master retreat. The bedroom itself has a large wall of windows, making this plan perfect for a private lot. A small exercise room is between the bedroom and bath.
Configured to stagger two cars behind one another, the three-car garage reduces the footprint and minimizes the number of doors you see from the street. It's also the perfect space for adding a nice workshop or a fifth bedroom.
