Waiting for April

BY SCOTT M. MORRIS (ALGONQUIN BOOKS OF CHAPEL HILL, $24.95)

The citizens of Citrus, Florida, don't remember Sanders Royce Collier fondly, although they can't forget the fated evening when he first strolled into their town. The Southern gentleman, who died under mysterious circumstances, was like no other man they ever knew.

Perhaps the only joyous legacy Sanders left behind was his son, Roy, the narrator. From nursery school until his marriage, Roy takes us on ajourney of discovery as he tries to determine why his deceased father's memory continues to make people uneasy years after his death. When he begins to ask questions, Roy's mother and other relatives desperately try to shield him from the truth.

Eventually, Roy's innocence is shattered as he learns the secret that has haunted his family since his father's death.
