Road-mapping the future

La Crosse Tribune,  Jun 09, 2005  by Magney, Reid

Getting around - or through - the mall area could be easier someday.

The new metro transportation plan has major changes in store for the vacant land south of Crossing Meadows Shopping Center, opening up new commercial development and adding to the city of La Crosse's tax base.

If they become a reality, the road plans would alter the way people get around the mall area:

* Gone would be the big turn on Hwys. 157 and SS toward Valley View Mall.

* Also gone would be an exit to Crossing Meadows and Hwy. SS.

* Hwy. SS would be a straight shot between Crossing Meadows and Valley View Mall, with a new bridge to go over the new road going south.

* Onalaska's 12th Street, which now comes to a T-intersection at Hwy. SS, would be extended south and around to hook up with Hwy. 16 south of Famous Dave's restaurant at the new entrance to the Holiday Heights neighborhood.
