Patients Needed For Clinical Research

Market Wire,  November, 2002

Thanksgiving is a time for families, when we gather to celebrate together. But when a loved one is suffering, holidays can be bittersweet. And so it is for the nearly three million people caring for a loved one who has Alzheimer's disease. In fact:

- about 70 percent of Alzheimer's patients live with their
  caregiver
- after age 65, it's estimated 10 percent of Americans have
  Alzheimer's
- after age 85, the prevalence increases to 50 percent
- studies show that by the year 2050, as many as 14 million
  may be afflicted

Researchers working to unlock some of the mysteries of Alzheimer's are currently enrolling patients in a clinical research trial who are 50 years or older, either living at home or in an assisted living facility with a caregiver who will accompany them to clinic visits, have a confirmed diagnosis, and haven't taken any Alzheimer's medications for the past three months.
