Citi agents backpack a punch in charity effort
Real Estate Weekly, Sept 21, 2005
Citi Habitats, Inc. announced that it donated over 1,000 backpacks to Volunteers of America's annual Operation Backpack--three times the amount it donated last year.
This is the third consecutive year that Citi Habitats has participated in the drive to collect backpacks and school supplies for the 11,000 children living in Greater New York homeless shelters.
"Each year, we're able to give back more to the city we live and work in," said Citi Habitats Chief Operating Officer Gary Malin.
"And each year our agents and staff are even more receptive to the project and willing to rise to the occasion as they've seen from the previous year just how rewarding it is to support and help the people of our city and surrounding area." Citi Habitats' agents and staff collectively donated more than 960 empty backpacks, approximately 100 backpacks filled with school supplies, and a substantial amount of loose supplies during the weeks of August 8-21. In addition to its internal efforts to organize and collect donations, Citi Habitats volunteered each of its 17 offices as public drop-off spots to Volunteers of America. The company has steadily increased its donations from 120 backpacks in 2003 to over 1000 this year.
Acording to Volunteers of America, the success of this year's Operation Backpack means that over 7,000 children in the Greater New York area's homeless shelter system will receive backpacks for the new school year.
