Flour City brewpub shuts down after ten months

Modern Brewery Age,  March 21, 2005

The Flour City Brewing Co. of Rochester, NY, has shut down after less than a year in operation, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports. The company's web-site has shut down, and calls to the former brewery were not returned.

The brewpub opened in May last year in the former Jack Astor's site across from Monroe Community College. Flour City served lunch, dinner and late night food, and brewed its own line of beer. It aimed to provide an upscale menu within its 200-seat dining area. According to earlier statements by the company, it had planned to eventually install a bottling line. Its beers were well-regarded.

Flour City was one of four brewpubs operating in Monroe County, New York. The three remaining brewpubs include Bru on State Street in Rochester, The Distillery on Mt. Hope, and Rohrbach Brewing Co. in Ogden, NY.
