New canned seasonals from Oskar Blues

Modern Brewery Age,  Jan 16, 2006

In December, the Oskar Blues Brewery of Lyons, CO, released two new hand-canned seasonal beers in Colorado. The brands--Gordon (a double India Pale Ale)--and Leroy (an American-style brown ale) will be packaged in 12-oz, plain aluminum cans with hand-applied labels. Only 400 cases of each beer have been produced. The beers will be sold in Colorado only. "These beers are a canned gift to our fans," says Oskar Blues founder Dale Katechis. "Gordon is made with six malts and three types of hops, and dry-hopped with whole cones of Amarillo. It is 9.3% alcohol by volume, and has 85 International Bittering Units. It is the world's hoppiest canned beer. We brewed it in tribute to the late Gordon Knight, microbrewery pioneer, Vietnam veteran and grade-A citizen. He lost his life in 2002 while fighting a wild fire outside of Lyons, Colorado." Gordon will now be sold in four packs of cans for $10.99.

Leroy is described as an unfiltered American-style brown ale made with five malts and four kinds of US and UK hops. A "session" beer of 5.2% a.b.v., it will be sold in sixpacks for $7.99.
