Modern Brewery Age, Jan 16, 2006
A Blonde Ale in the Belgian style is the newest offering from the BridgePort Brewing Co. of Portland, OR. According to the company, the new beer was the result of a recent visit to Europe by brewmaster Karl Ockert and colleagues. Mr. Ockert was serving as a judge at the Brewing Industry International Awards, and took a side trip to visit hop fields in Slovenia.
He inspected and bought a batch of Styrian Goldings. Meanwhile, one of his fellow BridgePort brewers had discovered some excellent two-row pils malt at a German malt house. When the ingredients arrived back in Portland, the brewers set to work. "The direction of Supris arose from our admiration of traditional Belgian ales," Ockert says. "During the development of the beer, we coincidentally fell in love with a Belgian yeast strain, and all the elements cam together." Supris is naturally conditioned with a double fermentation in bottle and keg. It will be sold in 18 states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, OR, WA, AL, GA, KS, MN, MO, NC, OK, TN and TX.
