Nation's Restaurant News, Feb 19, 2007
Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald's Corp. posted a 4.9-percent increase in global same-store sales for January versus the same month last year, driven by gains of 3.6 percent in the United States, 6.8 percent in Europe and 4.3 percent in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa region. The company said breakfast offerings, the Snack Wrap product line and extended operating hours drove the sales increases at U.S.
units. While the 3.6-percent uptick in January was the smallest U.S. same-store sales gain in four months, the comparison lapped a 9.7-percent gain a year earlier, the highest increase in more than two years. McDonald's operates or franchises more than 30,000 units worldwide.
