DALLAS -- About 300 executives from more than 100 companies attended the 12th annual People Report Best Practices conference held late last year at the Addison Marriott Quorum Hotel here.
With the theme, "Tone at the Top," the two-day conference covered trends in leadership and human resources in the industry. Jim Vinz, president of Corner Bakery Cafe, and the chain's vice president of human resources, Denise Clemens, chaired the event.
People Report, a Dallas firm that tracks human resources metrics for more than 100 member companies, also presented several awards.
The Heart of the Workplace Award went to Legal Sea Foods in recognition of the company's commitment to investing in both its employees and the community. Pizza Properties received the Catalyst Award, honoring its significant advances and sustained results on the people side of the P&L over the past two years.

The Workplace Legacy Award was given to James Broadhurst, chairman of Eat'n Park Hospitality Group, for his leadership and commitment to the industry and the community.
The 2007 Best People Practices Awards, given in recognition of achievements in retention and management diversity were presented to Panda Express, Longhorn Steakhouse, Capital Grille and White Castle.
Other highlights included presentations by Joni Doolin and Teresa Siriani of People Report as well as Ron Paul of Chicago-based Technomic Inc.
Sponsors of the 2007 event included American Express, Batrus Hollweg International, Coca-Cola, Cigna Health Care, Kronos and Service Management Group.
People Report's 2008 conference will be held Nov. 12-13 in Dallas.
