Papa John's began in 1984 when founder John Schnatter, at age 23, knocked down the broom closet in his father's tavern in Jeffersonville, Ind., installed an oven and began delivering pizza out of the back of the bar. Papa John's makes the crust of every traditional pizza with fresh dough (never frozen) prepared with clear-filtered water in the company's regional quality control centers. Papa John's uses only fresh-packed tomato sauce (not concentrate) made from vine-ripened tomatoes, which go from the vine to the can in an average of six hours; cheese made with 100% mozzarella; and other high quality toppings, including baby portabello mushrooms.

ENTERPRISE ZONE PROGRAM

Papa John's is currently looking for the right franchisees to join its system, with particular emphasis on several key markets. The company recently launched an Enterprise Zone Program allowing franchisees who qualify to pay no up-front franchise fees for development in Boston; Chicago; Detroit; Albany, N.Y.; Buffalo, N.Y.; California; Connecticut and New Jersey.

Additionally, franchisees agreeing to build five or more units pay a reduced royalty through 2010, and those building less than five restaurants will pay no royalty during 2008.The program is available through Sept. 28, 2008.
