Waiter at New Orleans casino wins big reward for honesty

Nation's Restaurant News,  Dec 10, 2007  by Elissa Elan

NEW ORLEANS -- A waiter at the Harrah's casino here won an $8,000 reward for being a good citizen.

According to a report on KTLA-TV, the local Los Angeles news broadcast, server Al Castro found a lost wallet in a restaurant booth at the casino recently, but it had no identification inside. The wallet belonged to Rhode Island eye surgeon Thomas McCauley, who had won the money gambling and put it in the wallet, a spare one he carries in case his pocket got picked.

Castro was able to track McCauley down and returned the wallet to him with the money intact. As a reward for his efforts, McCauley then gave Castro the entire $8,000.
