Reader: Honest discussions of race and industry are important

Nation's Restaurant News,  Nov 27, 2006  by Carey Allen

Editor, NRN:

I just read "Industry sees big dearth of black males in fine dining," Sept. 25, page 1, and I wanted to let you know how impressed I was by the brutal honesty of your article about black males in shortage in the food industry. These are issues that I have noticed, meaning the lack of black people in service jobs. I was happy to read an honest discussion with all the sides that many people are afraid to voice. Having those open discussions is the most important step in getting each of us to look at ourselves and what misconceptions we hold, or what we think the other side is thinking.
