Ex-Panera prexy, now Va. operator, inks Tenn. pact

RICHMOND HEIGHTS, MO. -- Panera Bread franchisees Rick and Rosemary Postle have secured rights to open 12 units in the Greater Memphis, Tenn., area, including the northern part of Mississippi, the chain said.

The Postles already operate eight Panera bakery-cafes in Virginia through their Blue Ridge Bread Inc. A separate company, Delta Dough Inc, will operate the new outlets.

Rick Postle is a former president of Richmond Heights-based Panera Bread and its predecessor company, St. Louis Bread Co. Inc. He has also served in high-level executive positions at Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, KFC, I Can't Believe It's Yogurt and Wendy's. Postle and his wife have been Panera franchisees since 2004.

Panera Bread and its franchisees operate 1,115 bakerycafes under the Panera Bread and Saint Louis Bread Co. names.
