McCain sponsors United Nations Year of the Potato

Nation's Restaurant News,  Nov 12, 2007

FLORENCEVILLE, NEW BRUNSWICK -- McCain Foods Limited, the supplier of French fries and other potato specialties based here, has agreed to sponsor the United Nations International Year of the Potato 2008. The U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution in 2005 saying the potato should be viewed as a major component of strategies aimed at providing nutritious food for the poor and hungry.

Dale Morrison, McCain's president and chief executive, said, "With our knowledge and our global presence, we are in a unique position to support the objectives of the United Nations in educating the world on the value of potatoes and by introducing potato farming capabilities to developing countries and impoverished nations that will deliver high nutrition [and] low-cost solutions to the world's poor and hungry."
