Food and wine celebration nets $60k for scholarship fund

Nation's Restaurant News,  Nov 12, 2007

Los ANGELES -- A celebration of California wines and restaurants that drew hundreds of the region's chefs and winemakers raised $60,000 dollars for a college scholarship fund.

The 4th Annual Central Coast Wine and Food Celebration, held under a big-top-style tent outside Wally's Wine & Spirits here, drew nearly 450 paid attendees who tasted dishes from local restaurants, sipped more than 100 wines from the region's producers, and participated in live and silent auctions. Guests also were entertained by "rockabilly" music from the Inexpensive Wino quartet.

Proceeds benefited the Michael Bonaccorsi Scholarship Fund at the University of California Davis' Department of Viticulture and Enology. The program was founded in honor of the late Bonaccorsi, who was an award-winning local sommelier and winemaker.

Participating restaurants included Spago, The Hitching Post, Campanile, Grace, Hungry Cat, Lucques, A.O.C., Literati I1, Tavern and Olio e Limone.

To date, the event has raised more than $160,000 for the fund.
