Nathans hot dog champ chomps way to Krystal hamburger crown

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Nathans Famous' hot dog eating champion recently conquered new worlds when he took firstplace honors in this year's Krystal Square Off hamburger contest here.

Joey Chestnut, 23, swallowed 103 Krystal sliders in 8 minutes to take home $10,000 and the hamburger-eating crown, the Associated Press reported. He beat 12 other contestants in his quest to become a burger behemoth.

Chestnut's efforts set a new record; Japan's Takeru Kobayashi, 29, held the previous one. Kobayashi did not compete this year because of a lingering jaw injury.
