Sportservice cited by Massachusetts Attorney Gen. for child labor law violations

Nation's Restaurant News,  Nov 12, 2007

MANSFIELD, MASS. -- Sportservice, the sports and entertainment division of Buffalo, N.Y.-based foodservice contractor Delaware North Cos., was cited last month for child labor law violations at the Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts here.

The company, along with concert promoter Live Nation Inc., was fined $16,000 in penalties for reportedly employing minors after 10 p.m. on school nights as well as hiring minors without work permits.

Martha Coakley, Massachusetts' attorney general, issued the citations against the two companies, which stated that a total of approximately 100 teenagers working for Live Nation and Delaware North were working in violation of the state's labor law.

A spokeswoman for Delaware North said the company "takes child labor law issues seriously and has a long history of outstanding compliance with all state and local laws."

"We were surprised by the news and upon being notified launched into a full internal investigation into the matter;' she said.
