Nation's Restaurant News, Nov 12, 2007
WASHINGTON -- The National Restaurant Association has encouraged former NRA chairman Ed Tinsley to run for New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District seat, which is being vacated by Republican Rep. Steve Pearce.
Pearce plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat left open with the retirement of Sen. Pete Domenici, also a Republican.
Tinsley ran unsuccessfully against Pearce in Republican primary balloting for the House seat in 2002. The former NRA leader has said he would make a decision on running for Congress sometime this month, though at press time his announcement was expected to come by Nov. 7.
Tinsley is president and chief executive of Tinsley Hospitality Group LLC in Santa Fe, N.M., the master franchisor of K-Bob's Steakhouses, which has 19 units in Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Dawn Sweeney, president and chief executive of the NRA, said: "Throughout his many years of service on the National Restaurant Association board and during his [recently ended] term as chairman, Ed has demonstrated that he is not only a talented leader, but that he has a keen understanding of the issues that small businesses face."
