Burgerville chain expands composting-recycling plan

Nation's Restaurant News,  Oct 29, 2007

VANCOUVER, WASH. -- The Holland Inc. said its 39-unit Burgerville quick-service chain will expand its pilot composting and recycling program systemwide by next year. Currently, 34 Burgervilles do recycling and eight are involved in a prototype program for recycling and composting that "redirects" 85 percent of restaurant-generated waste, the company said.

Burgerville, known for emphasizing local, "natural" ingredients and ecological practices, separately said it had promoted Kyle Dean from controller to chief financial officer and elevated Tara Wefers to chief development officer from vice president of marketing and communications. Dean joined the company last year after working with Westin Hotels. Wefers joined Burgerville in 2004.
