Kernel of advice: hide car keys from kids hungry for nuggets

Nation's Restaurant News,  Oct 29, 2007  by Elissa Elan

BROOMFIELD, COLO. -- Josh Barber will do just about anything to get his hands on Applebee's chicken nuggets.

According to the Associated Press, the 6year-old boy said he woke up from a nap hungry for the treat, but his grandmother was still sleeping. His mother was recovering from surgery and his father was at work.

So what's a boy to do? Well, for Josh, the answer was easy: take the car keys, unlock the door and drive to the restaurant to score some nuggets! He even moved his own car seat into the driver's seat so he could see better, before attempting to drive off. After putting the car in reverse, the youngster backed up 75 feet and hit a transformer, knocking out the electricity and phone service to dozens of townhouses in his Denver suburb. He then ran home and told his grandmother what happened.

No word on whether he got his nuggets.
