Enodis inks deal to supply Subway with Merrvchef accelerated ovens

Nation's Restaurant News,  Sept 10, 2007

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA. -- Foodservice equipment manufacturer Enodis PLC said it has reached an agreement with quick-service sandwich chain Subway to supply Merrychef accelerated-cooking ovens.

Merrychef 402(s) ovens have been approved for use at many of the 28,000 Subway outlets worldwide. The ovens will be used to prepare hot sandwiches for the Milford, Conn.-based sandwich brand.

"We are very pleased to expand our relationship with Subway restaurants and become a supplier of such an integral part of their globally recognized hot-sandwich program," said Dave McCulloch, chief executive of Enodis.

Tom Coba, chief operations officer of Subway parent Doctor's Associates Inc., said: "Our fresh sandwiches are the heart of our customer promise. Merrychef ovens' quick cook times will allow us to deliver what our customers want: hot food fast. We chose to add Merrychef to our roster of approved suppliers because of the brand's reputation for reliability and opportunities to expand the accelerated technology for our future menu needs around the globe."

Merrychef has installed more than 70,000 microwave and combination-technology ovens in an array of foodservice locations internationally, including BP and Mobil "On the Run" convenience stores as well as the hot-food program at Hyatt Place hotels.

"Accelerated Cooking Technology is destined to dramatically shape the future of, and demand for, new cooking equipment," McCulloch said.

Other Enodis brands include Scotsman, Frymaster, Cleveland, Garland and Jackson.
