Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedDeveloper thinks spirits-filled church bars are next big thing
Nation's Restaurant News, Sept 10, 2007 by Elissa Elan
LOS ANGELES -- It used to be that when you went to church you'd pass the collection plate, but if one local developer has his way, congregants at the Little Country Church of Hollywood could be tossing back boilermakers with their bibles if the church becomes a swinging night club-bar-place of worship.
According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Vytas Juskys thinks the historic New England-style church is the perfect location for a, well, slammin' good time. Juskys' vision includes live entertainment--as if a sermon and choir aren't enough--plus two outdoor, freestanding bars.
But Juskys is having a tough time convincing the City of Angels to go along with his plan. Some say the idea is a bit, um, sacrilegious, and city planners say he hasn't allowed for enough parking spaces. Because the idea doesn't seem to have a prayer, he reluctantly has called a halt to the plan.
Good Lord.
