Nutritionist develops anti-wrinkle pit, a, creates rub over quality

Nation's Restaurant News,  Sept 3, 2007  by Elissa Elan

ROME -- You say tomato, and I say botox; let's call the whole thing a new wrinkle for an old favorite ... food, that is.

Pizza purists here are arguing over whether Italy's national dish has been desecrated by the creation of a so-called "anti-wrinkle" pizza by a nutritionist here.

According to a report in Agence France-Presse, the "Primula" pizza, which reportedly has three times the amount of fiber found in classic pizza as well as more magnesium and iron, has everyone up in arms concerning its claim to youthful beauty and its inability to hold together a characteristic pizza crust because of the whole-meal flour used in its construction.

The pizza features at least eight vegetables and ingredients that provide the anti-oxidant effects against aging: tomatoes, rocket, garlic, zucchini, basil, mushrooms, carrots and spinach.

And there's at least one who is faithful in his devotion to the anti-wrinkle pizza. Pope Benedict XVI reportedly loves it so much, he recently ate a whole pie at a party for the Vatican guards.
