Oscar Mayer Wienermobile a hot dog on Chi-town streets

Nation's Restaurant News,  August 27, 2007  by Elissa Elan

CHICAGO -- It's not every day that the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has a beef with the law, but that's exactly what happened here recently when the city's Streets and Sanitation Department stopped the hotdog-shaped fiberglass vehicle for parking in a no-parking zone.

According to the Associated Press, the driver of the 27-foot vehicle received a $50 ticket for parking illegally with hazard lights blinking on posh Michigan Avenue.

"The situation was resolved without the use of ketchup, which in Chicago is a big thing," said Matt Smith of the Streets and Sanitation Department.

A spokeswoman for Oscar Mayer parent Kraft Foods said the Wienermobile is traveling the country to promote a singing contest of the Oscar Mayer jingle.
