HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Six aspiring culinarians, all members of the National Honor Society, have earned scholarships to The Culinary Institute of America here.

The college's 2007 Cream of the Crop scholarship winners were selected based on their leadership skills and academic record. They will begin attending the CIA this summer or fall.

Scholarship recipients earn $5,000 annually, renewable for each year of study at the CIA, provided they maintain at least a 3.2 grade point average.

The students are Jennianne Barbagalo of Castleton, N.Y.; Eldridge Betts and Anthony Solofra of Chicago; Abigail Rubin of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Christine Smith of Baltic, Conn.; and Melissa Tran of New Orleans.

All six recipients will pursue bachelor's degrees from the CIA either in culinary arts management or in baking and pastry arts management.
