WCR announces Tropp memorial scholarships

LOUISVILLE, KY, - Women Chefs and Restaurateurs announced two scholarships in honor of the organization's late founder, Barbara Tropp. The purpose of the scholarships is to educate female chefs about Chinese cuisine. One is for a five-day internship at any continental U.S. location of P.F. Chang's China Bistro, based in Scottsdale, Ariz. The other is five days or nights in the kitchen of Susanna Foo in Philadelphia.

The scholarships are open to WCR members who are at least 18 years old. To qualify for a Susanne Foo Scholarship, applicants must have at least one year experience in restaurants and, for the P. F. Chang's scholarship, two years' experience. Applications must include a resume three letters of recommendation and an essay explaining why the applicant wants to learn about Chinese cuisine, including a discussion of the degree to which Tropp's life, work and writing have influenced the applicants career and desire to study Chinese cuisine. The applications also must include a paper explaining the skills the applicant would like to learn or perfect and a $20 application fee.
