Reader remembers industry vet Jenkins as friend, mentor

Editor, NRN:

Mike Jenkins was a mentor and an inspiration to so many of us in this industry.

His instinctive ability of unmasking issues affecting a business and then gathering talented people around him to impact those issues was uncanny. But as I spoke with many of his proteges after his recent passing - people who because of their exposure to him had richer careers and at some of this industry's leading organizations - we reflected that we would miss his sage counsel, hearty laughter and kind, sweet nature the most.

Godspeed dear friend; we hold you close to our hearts.

Drinking a toast to writer Regan on beverage columns

Editor, NRN:

I enjoyed "Straight-up bartending wisdom from turn of the century still holds true today," April 29, page 35, by Gary Regan. Where is he getting those esoteric resources, such as Charles Mahoney's "Hoffman House Bartender's Guide"?

Perhaps he should publish his own set of guidelines for running a successful bar. I'd buy a copy.
