Nation's Restaurant News, May 7, 2007
TAMPA, FLA. -- Two class-action lawsuits have been filed against Outback Steakhouse parent OSI Restaurant Partners Inc. for alleged violations of a new law limiting the amount of personal information that can be shown on customers' credit card receipts, OSI said in a securities filing.
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act was enacted late last year as a defense against identity theft.
"Both complaints seek monetary damages, including statutory damages, punitive damages, attorneys' fees and injunctive relief," OSI said. The allegations are being examined, and OSI is "evaluating developing judicial interpretations of the statute," it added.
