Sysco sales increase 7.5% in 2nd q

Houston -- Sysco Corp., based here, reported a sales increase of 7.5 percent with a net earnings increase of 15.9 percent for the second fiscal quarter ended Dec. 30.

Richard Schnieders, chairman, chief executive and president of the company, said Sysco's business review strategy and the efforts of its marketing associates were responsible for the strong growth. Gross profit was 19.3 percent. The corporation also has declared its 149th consecutive quarterly dividend, set at 19 cents per share.

Sysco brand sales are 53.2 percent of marketing associate-served sales and 46.2 percent of all broadline sales.

In other Sysco news, Kevin A. Berg has been named president and chief executive of Sysco Asian Foods Inc., a subsidiary with locations in St. Paul, Minn., and Hampshire, Ill. In addition, Lucas Wagenaar is now assistant vice president of information technology at Sysco Corp.
