Executives advise hospitality students at conference

Nation's Restaurant News,  March 31, 2008

SAN DIEGO -- About two dozen hospitality executives shared advice and tales of their experiences this month with students at a leadership conference hosted by the School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at California State University, San Diego.

In addition to speaking on panels, the executives visited classrooms and met with students during the two-day event.

Chris Sullivan, chairman of Outback Steakhouse parent OSI Restaurant Partners Inc. of Tampa, Fla., led a panel discussion of chief executives. The conference also had a session led by trends analysts Dennis Lombardi of the WD Partners foodservice consulting firm, and Rick Berman, president of the Berman & Co. public affairs firm.

Some of the visiting executives were from Brinker International, the multi-chain restaurant company founded by CSUSD alumnus Norman Brinker. Also giving class lectures were the school's Brinker Executive-in-Residence, Jeff Campbell, who is a former chairman of Burger King, and Kyle Craig, former head of marketing for Burger King and former president of the Brinker-founded Steak and Ale chain.
