Teaching critical thinking

Skeptical Inquirer,  Nov-Dec, 2006  by Sharon Schwarze

The kind of critical thinking that is espoused by Howard Gabennesch in his article "Critical Thinking" (March/April 2006) is taught, at least in our textbook, Thinking Socratically (Prentice Hall). Harvey Lape and I share the same conception of critical thinking that Gabennesch describes and have developed our text as a way to teach critical thinking as open, rational dialogue. Unfortunately, this puts us out of the mainstream of critical thinking textbooks, but we are out there.
