Responsibility for behavior
Skeptical Inquirer, Nov-Dec, 2006 by Terence Hines
A letter in the September/October 2006 issue (p. 68) criticizes me for saying in my book review in the May/June 2006 issue that even though we learn of biological bases for certain destructive behaviors, people are morally responsible for their behaviors and in such cases should be condemned. Mr. Dvorkin understands my position perfectly. No matter how much we come to understand the biological bases of behaviors like driving drunk, we should still be willing to condemn and stigmatize those who engage in them.
