It would be the height of optimism to believe that efforts to debunk this myth will cause it to disappear. It's too good a story and lends itself too readily to those who are eager to make a point and to whom facts and truth are secondary.

Samuel Sass (523 Crane Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201) was librarian of the General Electric Company's transformer division for thirty-one years before his retirement in 1976.
