Kristoff, Nicholas D. "Alien Abduction? Science Calls It Sleep Paralysis." - Review

Skeptical Inquirer,  May, 2000  by Jodi Chapman,  Kendrick Frazier

Kristoff, Nicholas D. "Alien Abduction? Science Calls It Sleep Paralysis." The New York Times, July 6, 1999. p.F1. "A growing number of scholars believe that sleep paralysis may help explain many ancient reports of witches and modern claims of abduction by space aliens," writes Kristoff. Scientists in Japan have long recognized this disorder, which they call kanashibari.

One in two people are said to be affected by this disorder at least once in their lifetime. Americans' exposure to the supernatural, such as witchcraft and aliens, via movies and books increases their likeliness to report an abduction during sleep.
